Ah Autumn, the coolness of the mornings and evenings and the warmth of midday makes spending time outside a joy. You can find festivals and activities celebrating everything from food and wine to October itself! Whether you travel down the street or to another state, take time to enjoy the great outdoors, and bring Perdue along with you!

Have a Picnic in the Park

In 1971, Frank Perdue enjoyed a picnic on the grass in the Salisbury City Park on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. In this, Perdue's first television commercial, Frank ate a chicken drumstick that was, in his words, "really good". Unlike Frank, you can pack and enjoy a picnic in the park without all the fuss of lights and cameras!

Some delicious and easy-to-prepare picnic options include:

Visit Your Local Zoo

No, you can't feed the animals! But you can bring your snack, lunch or dinner into their home! Pack your food items in an insulated cooler, either keeping them hot (140°F minimum) or cold (40°F maximum).

Try one of these portable PERDUE® recipes to make your zoo trip a memorable one:

Travel A Nature Trail

What better way to work up an appetite for a snack that can be thrown together in a matter of minutes? Many of our State and Regional parks have picnic areas where you can rest and enjoy an outdoor meal.

When packing hot foods, remember to keep them hot in an insulated cooler by using hot packs warmed in the microwave. Stuffing newspaper or foil around the packaged, hot foods will keep them hot. Remember to keep hot foods at 140°F. or above and never leave out for more than 2 hours!

Here are some Nature Trail-blazing menu options:

Hit the Road on a Hayride or Horse Drawn Carriage

Hayrides are often organized this time of the year, and carriage rides are offered in most major cities and farm towns. If you can't find one nearby, take your blanket to the closest grassy area, plop down under the stars and listen for the natural night sounds!

For a no-fuss fantastic meal before or after the ride, warm up some PERDUE® Frozen Fully Cooked items, wrap them well, and pack them in an insulated cooler!

Go on a Camping Adventure

Scouts and campers are the most creative when it comes to cooking their birds on a grill or campfire. Cooking in foil packets or on top of a beer can will keep the chicken moist and juicy. On the other hand, if you don't want to cook, pack some PERDUE® Turkey Meatballs in your cooler to heat, or simply eat!
