Steve Schwalb, Vice President of Environmental Sustainability for Perdue Incorporated, has been appointed to the 2009 Board of Directors of the Global Environmental Management Initiative (GEMI). Schwalb will serve a one-year term as the Board Director of Finance.

“I’m looking forward to working with the other newly appointed Board members to maintain the focus and work-product applicability associated with GEMI,” said Schwalb. “GEMI participation has enabled Perdue to network with other represented companies to develop our sustainability initiatives, utilize sustainability tools developed by GEMI, and gain exposure to experts in the sustainability field.”

Other Board members include Vice Chair, Keith Miller, Environmental Initiatives and Sustainability, 3M; Director of Tools, Leslie Montgomery, Environmental Stewardship Program Manager, Southern Company; Director of Membership, Lindell Sneed, Manager, Environmental Programs, Abbott; Director of Communications, Angie Grooms, Director, Corporate EHS Integration and Governance, Duke Energy; Director of Benchmark, Gregg Belardo, Director, Environmental Affairs, Wyeth; and Director of SAC, Bill Lechner, Vice President EHS & Security, the Scotts Miracle-Gro Company.

“The 2009 Board of Directors is an outstanding group of leaders,” says Bob Accarino, Director, Global Environmental Affairs, Abbott, the outgoing Chair and new Chair Emeritus of GEMI. Accarino adds, “The new board led by Maurice Bechard, will excel in developing fresh perspectives while maintaining the integrity and overall goals of the organization, and I am confident that their combined knowledge and experience will successfully carry GEMI into the New Year.”
